Bobby Fong Joins OrangeCat BMW for 2027 MotoAmerica Superbike Season
2026-10-19

The reigning MotoAmerica Superbike Champion will leave Yamaha behind and take on a new challenge aboard the BMW M 1000 RR with OrangeCat Racing in 2027.
Bobby Fong’s next move is official, as the reigning MotoAmerica Quad Lock Superbike Champion joins OrangeCat BMW for the 2027 season.
The announcement, confirmed by MotoAmerica on its social media channels, brings an end to Fong’s time with Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha and sets the stage for a new chapter in his Superbike career.
Fong enters the offseason at the top of American road racing after capturing his first Superbike championship in 2026. The Californian delivered a decisive late-season performance to finish with 316 points, 11 clear of Sean Dylan Kelly, who finished runner-up aboard the OrangeCat BMW.
Now, the two championship protagonists will find themselves on the same side of the garage in 2027, with Fong joining the team that pushed him to the title fight through the final round at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
A New Chapter for Fong and BMW
OrangeCat Racing enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Superbike class in 2026. Kelly scored three victories and 13 podium finishes on the BMW M 1000 RR, while teammate Jayson Uribe finished seventh in the championship and secured his first Superbike podium.
Adding the reigning champion to that program gives OrangeCat another proven race winner and a rider who has demonstrated the ability to deliver a championship under pressure.
For Fong, the transition will mean adapting to new machinery and a different team environment after establishing himself as the rider to beat in 2026. His experience and recent championship success will make him a key figure in BMW’s push for the Superbike crown.
Yamaha Faces a Major Change
Fong’s departure represents a significant development for Yamaha following a championship-winning campaign.
As reported by Road Race Report last week, Yamaha released a video thanking Fong for his time with the brand, stating it was “proud to have had him on the Blu Cru.” The message raised questions about his future, and the OrangeCat BMW announcement now answers them.
With the 2027 MotoAmerica season approaching, attention will turn to how the reigning champion adapts to BMW machinery and what his arrival means for the competitive balance at the front of the Superbike field.
One thing is certain: Fong will enter 2027 with a target on his back, and OrangeCat BMW will have championship expectations of its own.
Road Race Report will continue to follow the latest developments in the 2027 MotoAmerica silly season.
